St Spyridon College is committed to the provision of a quality sports program for boys and girls that responds to the range of needs, abilities and talents. The College encourages all students to participate in sporting activities as part of a lifelong learning journey as individuals and members of teams. Team sport is characterised by a willingness to work with peers to achieve team goals that align with the College’s Sport mantra of “Team First”.
There is a strong focus on Cross-Campus Collaboration with an emphasis on the learning journey aimed at strengthening physical literacy and specifically building the skills, knowledge, and behaviours, to help all students lead active lives through an elaborate Interschool and Intraschool Sports Program at both the Junior and Senior Campus.
Sporting Affiliation
The College is a member of the ISA (Independent Sporting Association) for Senior Campus students and ASISSA (All Suburbs Independent Schools Sports Association) for Junior Campus students. We also have sporting clubs competing in various local-based association competitions including a Netball Club and a Basketball Club.
- ISA sporting fixtures are played on a Saturday. Home – ISA
- ASISSA fixtures are played on a Thursday afternoon. Home — ASISSA
- Association-based sports are played either mid-week after school, or on a Saturday.
The College engages accredited external coaches in each of the sports offered. Coaches are responsible for delivering a program suitable for the needs of the College teams including the learning continuity and journey as students transition from the Junior to the Senior Campus.
Sporting Honours
Our affiliation with the various sporting bodies provides students with opportunities to trial for Representative Teams and at this level compete against major school associations in NSW. From these associations, students are selected for the New South Wales Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) to compete against other school associations through to School Sport Australia.
